Mockup of Alleged Switch 2 Shown at CES, Nintendo Disapproves

Accessory maker Genki exhibited a mockup of a possible Nintendo Switch 2 at its CES 2025 booth, a replica whose appearance closely matches recent leaked designs — prompting Nintendo to say the displayed device was unofficial and leading company lawyers to visit the Genki stand.

Genki displayed a replica tied to recent leaks

Genki presented a mockup of what it described as the Nintendo Switch 2 during CES 2025. Observers noted the mockup’s resemblance to previously circulated leaked images of the rumored next-generation console, though Nintendo has not publicly revealed or confirmed any new hardware.

French journalist Julien Tellouck, who shared images of the alleged Switch 2 design online, reported that Nintendo lawyers attended Genki’s booth at the show and were displeased with the exhibit.

What Genki showed and how it reacted

Genki’s mockup included detachable Joy-Con controllers described as magnetic and a noticeably larger display compared with the original Switch released in 2017. The company also highlighted an optical sensor for the new Joy-Con, a feature that had appeared in leaked images prior to CES.

Although the mockup was intended as a replica rather than an official product, Genki made a rendered video of the device available on its website (video).

After Nintendo characterized the design shown at CES as unofficial and not provided by the company, Genki maintained that no nondisclosure agreement had been signed and therefore believed no wrongdoing had occurred. A company representative told CNET Japan that the lack of an NDA meant the exhibit did not violate any agreement.

Conflicting statements from both sides

Genki also told Julien Tellouck it was confident the mockup’s design would resemble the final Switch 2 hardware. Nintendo, for its part, stated the device displayed at CES was nonofficial and not supplied by the company.

Timing and official disclosure window

Genki suggested the Switch 2 could launch in April of this year. Separately, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa posted in May 2024 that a formal announcement with details about the Nintendo Switch 2 would arrive within the current fiscal year, giving the company until March 2025 to officially disclose the console.
