Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition adds expansion and roguelike mode

One year after its launch, Ghost of Yōtei has expanded its world: Sony released Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition for PS5, which bundles the original single‑player campaign, the Legends multiplayer, the new narrative expansion Ecos of Sekigahara and a roguelike mode called Most Wanted.

The main narrative addition is Ecos of Sekigahara, an expansion that alternates between the present timeline and events from when Atsu was on the main island. The DLC delves into previously unexplored parts of the protagonist’s backstory.

Erika Ishii, who provides Atsu’s voice, motion capture and likeness for the English version, returned to the studio months after finishing the original campaign to record material for the expansion. Ishii said she anticipated a future expansion and wanted a DLC to examine more of Atsu’s personal life.

Relationships are a central theme of the new content. Ishii discussed with writer Courtney Woods the possibility of exploring Atsu’s personal and romantic bonds, and the expansion presents the character at different stages of her life. According to Ishii, portraying those versions required considering how past experiences shaped the Atsu players meet in the present.

Most Wanted introduces a roguelike, mythic side story

The Complete Edition also adds Most Wanted, a roguelike mode that adopts a more mystical tone and is not part of the main story’s canon. The mode offers an alternative, repeatable challenge distinct from the campaign structure.

Ishii recorded new dialogue specifically for Most Wanted, which also features familiar faces from the franchise. Among them is Jin, the protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima; Daisuke Tsuji returned to record new lines for that character, creating an encounter between the two leads within this parallel experience.

Ishii described Most Wanted’s tone as closer to the franchise’s mythological aspects explored in its multiplayer, enabling scenarios different from those in the main campaign.

Although Ghost of Yōtei has reached its one‑year anniversary, Erika Ishii spent roughly four years working on Atsu during development. She said playing The Last of Us inspired her to pursue acting in video games, and landing Atsu fulfilled that professional goal.

Returning to record for the expansion was a different experience because Ishii had already played the final release of Ghost of Yōtei; knowing Atsu’s full journey helped her re‑approach the character during the new sessions.

With the Complete Edition, Ghost of Yōtei expands its narrative one year after release while providing an alternate roguelike experience for players seeking challenges outside the campaign.
