Nintendo raises U.S. price of Switch 2 by $50

Nintendo announced a $50 price increase for the Switch 2 in the United States, bringing the console’s U.S. price to $500. In its financial report, the company attributed the hike to higher memory costs and U.S. tariffs.

Company expects lower Switch 2 sales next fiscal year

In the latest quarter Nintendo shipped 2.49 million units of the Switch 2, bringing total shipments to 19.86 million units across three quarters of the most recent fiscal year.

Despite that performance, the company now forecasts lower shipments for the full next fiscal year, projecting 16.5 million Switch 2 units. Analysts had anticipated a projection above 20 million, driven by the console’s successful launch.

Nintendo said the 16.5 million-unit forecast still represents “a solid level of adoption for the Switch 2 in its second year after launch,” but acknowledged the price-sensitive nature of its younger consumer base could affect demand.

Software sales and movie boost overall results

Software sales rose during the period. Nintendo reported combined software sales for Switch and Switch 2 of 185.62 million units, up from 155.41 million units in fiscal 2025 when figures covered only the Switch.

Top-selling titles included Mario Kart World with 14.7 million units, Donkey Kong Bananza with 4.5 million, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A with 8.5 million.

The company also reported that the film Super Mario Galaxy grossed more than $800 million in its first four weeks, contributing to the broader revenue gains.

Revenue nearly doubles year over year

Nintendo’s revenue for fiscal 2026 rose 98.6% from the prior year, reaching 2.3 trillion yen (about $14.7 billion). In fiscal 2025 revenue was 1.16 trillion yen (about $7.4 billion).

For the next fiscal year, Nintendo projects revenue will fall by roughly 11.4%, though it expects a modest increase in operating profit driven by software sales.

The company also estimated additional costs of around 100 billion yen tied to higher component prices—especially memory—and tariff measures, which it cited as reasons for the Switch 2 price increase in the U.S.
