Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, a roughly 50-minute presentation that delivered multiple trailers, release dates for Switch 2 editions, and saved its biggest reveal — a Switch 2–exclusive remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time — for the finale. The remake is slated for 2026 with no specific release date announced.

Pokémon Pokopia update and paid expansion pass
Pokémon Pokopia will receive a free update in August 2026 that adds an underwater area enabled by a new Dive move; players will be able to plant, build and expand underwater towns.
Additionally, a paid Expansion Pass is on sale today in the Nintendo eShop and will be released in three parts. The first expansion, Bubbly Basin, arrives in August 2026 and brings a new underwater city, furniture, outfits and new Pokémon. Parts two and three have no dates yet; further details will be shared throughout the year.
Donkey Kong events and DLC
The DK Challenge begins June 9 as a limited-time event to promote Nintendo Switch Online. Players can take on challenges in classic Donkey Kong titles from the Nintendo Classics catalog, earn points and collect digital cards. Owners of Donkey Kong Bananza receive extra developer-created challenges. Access is through the Nintendo Switch Online app on the Switch 2 menu.
Donkey Kong Bananza’s paid DLC, DK Island & Emerald Rush, will feature a limited-time collaboration with Super Mario Bros. in four waves beginning today. Players can use Donkey Kong and Pauline skins styled as Mario and Luigi, plus classic items like coins, Super Mushrooms and “?” blocks.
Smaller highlights and demos
Some additional notes from the Direct:
- Star Fox demo is available on the eShop today.
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind demo is available today.
- Several ports and Switch 2 Editions were emphasized throughout the show rather than numerous wholly new first-party releases.
The remake: The Legend of Zelda — Ocarina of Time
The Direct closed with the announcement of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, confirmed as exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 and promised for release sometime in 2026. A teaser shown during the presentation presents a more realistic visual approach than the original game.
Reception and overall assessment
Reactions to the presentation were mixed: critics noted the show featured many smaller titles and a large number of third-party ports and Switch 2 editions rather than an abundance of brand-new blockbuster announcements. For some viewers the lineup felt light for an anniversary year live showcase.
Yet the lineup expands the Switch 2 catalog across genres and audiences, and for fans of Nintendo exclusives the Ocarina of Time remake may have justified the Direct. The company also provided a consolidated list of available games and demos in its official store listing.
