New Black Ops Game Revisits Cold War Conspiracy

Call of Duty returns with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a direct sequel to the original Black Ops that places players in an early-1980s Cold War thriller where “nothing is what it seems.”

The game combines 1980s pop-culture elements with a conspiracy-driven narrative that spans iconic locations such as East Berlin, Turkey, Vietnam and Moscow. Players assume the role of elite agents trying to unravel a decades-long plot centered on a shadowy figure known as Perseus, who aims to destabilize the global balance of power.

Campaign: chase Perseus across the globe

In the single-player campaign, operatives follow leads and confront historical figures as they expose hidden truths and confront lies and subterfuge. The story focuses on preventing a conspiracy that threatens to alter modern history.

Multiplayer, zombies and progression

Beyond the campaign, Black Ops Cold War includes a broad selection of Cold War–era weapons and equipment for multiplayer matches, plus a “completely new” zombies mode. The title supports cross-play between current and next-generation consoles and provides shared progression across all modes.

Battle Pass and post-launch content

The game will feature a Battle Pass system and, according to the developer, “constant free post-launch content updates,” which will add multiplayer maps and modes, zombies content and in-game events for the community.

Integration with Warzone

Black Ops Cold War offers shared progression with Call of Duty: Warzone, making items usable in both games. Warzone players will retain access to all their existing Modern Warfare content, including previously acquired operators and weapon blueprints.

Pre-order bonuses and beta access

Starting today, players who pre-order or pre-purchase the digital edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will receive immediate rewards, including the Black Ops operator Frank Woods for use in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. They will also gain early access to the Open Beta for Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer; the beta date will be announced soon.

Release platforms and schedule

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software for next-generation consoles, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Battle.net on November 13. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will ship according to console availability to the public.
