Microsoft has postponed the reboot of Fable from its planned fall 2026 window to February 2027, saying the move will give the game a more focused launch window. The company also confirmed it will present a new preview of the title at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.
Company cites packed year-end release calendar
In a post on X, Microsoft said the change is part of its broader release planning for the holiday season and that the intent is to ensure Fable gets “the dedicated moment it deserves.” The company framed the delay as a scheduling decision rather than a change in scope or platform support.
Microsoft highlighted several major releases already slated for the second half of 2026 that make the period particularly busy. Among the titles it listed are Grand Theft Auto VI, due November 19; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, arriving October 23; and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, scheduled for October 6.
Other Xbox releases expected in late 2026
Microsoft also referenced upcoming Xbox games such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Control Resonant as part of the lineup for players. The company said it expects to share more specific dates for portions of this catalog during the Xbox Games Showcase.
“This year is packed with great games for Xbox players, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI,” Microsoft wrote.
Background on the Fable reboot and platform plans
Developed by Playground Games, the new Fable was announced in 2020 as a “new beginning” for the franchise. Microsoft had at one point indicated a 2025 launch window, later moving the release into 2026 before the most recent delay pushed it to February 2027.
The company confirmed the reboot will be released on Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation 5.
Project Helix update
Microsoft also said there will be no new announcements about Project Helix, the next Xbox console, during the Xbox Games Showcase. That information was shared by Matt Booty, Xbox’s head of content, on the brand’s official podcast. Earlier in the month Microsoft had said it would provide more details on Project Helix during 2026.
