Rockstar Games released a surprise launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on Thursday, Oct. 15, revealing new story moments, action sequences and more about the relationship between protagonists Jason and Lucia. The studio confirmed the game will launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Trailer sheds light on Jason’s past and the protagonists’ relationship
The new trailer offers a deeper look at Jason’s background, including a revelation that he left the military under difficult circumstances. Jason says those problems harmed his ability to obtain loans and other financial opportunities, suggesting his economic struggles helped push him toward criminal activity.
Alongside this backstory, the video includes high-speed vehicle chases, shootouts and other criminal sequences consistent with the franchise’s staples. It also highlights intimate moments between Jason and Lucia, indicating their relationship will play a prominent role in the game’s narrative.
The trailer introduces a new piece in the official soundtrack: “Flower in a Hurricane,” a collaboration credited to the electronic duo Justice with contributions from Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. The track is listed as part of the game’s music lineup.
Release timing makes GTA 6 eligible for The Game Awards 2026

With its Nov. 19 release date, GTA 6 falls within the eligibility window for The Game Awards 2026. The event’s rules require a title to be commercially available by Nov. 20, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time to qualify for the main categories.
Because Rockstar’s launch date is one day before that deadline, the game would meet the eligibility cutoff if the date remains unchanged. GTA 6 could be considered for categories such as Best Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Original Soundtrack and Game of the Year.
Eligibility does not assure nomination, however; inclusion in the awards depends on the decisions of the organization’s jury. If nominated, GTA 6 would compete alongside other 2026 releases mentioned in the same context, including Resident Evil Requiem, Control Resonant and Forza Horizon 6.
Campaign momentum as launch approaches
With just over a month before the scheduled release, the launch trailer continues Rockstar’s promotion of one of the most anticipated games in recent years, offering players additional glimpses of the story and gameplay that will appear at launch.
