How to cancel your Xbox Live Gold subscription

The Xbox Live Gold subscription has gradually been eclipsed by Game Pass since 2017 and is now being consolidated into Game Pass Ultimate. If you prefer to stop your Live Gold subscription before any further changes, you can cancel it either from an Xbox console or from a computer.

Canceling Xbox Live Gold from an Xbox console

Follow these steps on your console to begin the cancellation process:

  1. Press the Home button (Xbox logo) in the center of the controller.
  2. From the menu, go to the “Profile & system” tab (the far-right option) and select your profile.
  3. Navigate to “My subscriptions.”
  4. Under the “Subscribed” tab, choose your Xbox Live Gold subscription. In “Payment & billing,” select “View and manage subscription.”

After selecting “View and manage subscription,” the console will open a web browser to complete the process. Continue with the computer steps below from step 4 onward.

To finish cancellation on a PC or directly in the browser, use these steps:

  1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
  2. If you are not signed in, click “Sign in” at the top right and enter your Microsoft account credentials.
  3. Once signed in, locate the “Services & subscriptions” section and find your Xbox Live Gold subscription.
  4. Click “Manage” next to the subscription.
  5. In “Payment settings,” choose “Cancel subscription,” or click “Change” and select “Turn off recurring billing.”
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and confirm by selecting “Turn off recurring billing” again.

After these steps, your Xbox Live Gold subscription will not renew at the next billing cycle.
