Microsoft has started releasing the first version of Copilot for Gaming within the Xbox mobile app, making the AI assistant available on iOS and Android to users in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
In this initial rollout the company says Copilot will act as a second-screen companion rather than altering gameplay directly. The assistant provides quick access to recent achievements, recommends titles based on a player’s history, and supplies tips and guides to help users progress. Microsoft also says future capabilities will include remotely downloading and installing games on a connected console.

How Copilot works inside the Xbox app
The Copilot for Gaming experience follows Microsoft’s Copilot design language, offering a customizable interface and voice. Interactions are generated from account activity, earned achievements and the user’s play history, enabling contextualized responses tied to what the player is doing.
Taylor O’Malley, Xbox program manager, explained that the assistant can recognize games currently in play and provide relevant information based on that context.
Planned evolution and prior tests
Microsoft has described broader ambitions to expand AI across its gaming division, with Copilot potentially evolving into an AI-driven coach. In earlier tests the tool was used to analyze mistakes in Overwatch 2 matches, recommend optimal heroes, and answer gameplay questions in Minecraft, including crafting instructions.
Availability and next steps
This mobile release is limited to the five listed countries for now. Microsoft has not provided a timeline for bringing Copilot for Gaming to additional regions.
