Xbox Series S price and look revealed

Microsoft revealed the price and appearance of its more affordable next-generation console, the Xbox Series S, and confirmed pricing for the Xbox Series X. Both consoles are slated to launch on November 10, with the Series S priced at US$299 and the Series X at US$499 in the United States.

The company posted an image of the Series S on its official Twitter account during the early hours of Tuesday, November 8. The image shows a white console with a prominent top ventilation opening, a design detail that quickly drew attention from the brand’s community.

Financing options announced

Windows Central reports that the consoles will also be available through Xbox All Access. Under that program, the Series X package is expected to cost about US$35 per month, while the Series S would be offered for approximately US$25 per month.

Series S hardware and capabilities

Additional details about the Series S surfaced on Twitter via tipster Walking Cat, who shared a short video outlining specifications. The Series S is said to be smaller in size—small enough to fit inside the Series X’s footprint—yet Microsoft is positioning it as a capable unit rather than a mere low-end alternative.

The console is expected to support games at 1440p with up to 120Hz refresh rates and to offer 4K streaming and 4K upscaling for games. The footage also suggests the presence of a custom NVMe SSD to accelerate load times, and Microsoft’s Velocity Architecture is believed to be included to improve storage and streaming performance.

Storage in the leaked material is listed as 512 GB and the Series S reportedly lacks a disc drive. While 512 GB may be limited for some current titles, the system will support storage expansion via proprietary expansion cards.

Graphics features and backward compatibility

The Series S is expected to include DirectX ray tracing support, variable rate shading, and variable refresh rate technologies. Microsoft has also committed to making the full Xbox One game library available on its new consoles, including backward-compatible titles from the Xbox 360 era.
