Microsoft will honor PS5 timed exclusives from Bethesda

Microsoft confirmed that Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo will remain timed exclusives for the PlayStation 5, meaning they will be available only on Sony’s console for a limited period before potentially releasing on Xbox and other platforms.

Phil Spencer addresses concerns after ZeniMax acquisition

The statement from Xbox head Phill Spencer came after Microsoft announced its acquisition of ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion, which raised questions online about whether Bethesda and its studios’ upcoming games would become Xbox-only. Spencer told Bloomberg that both Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo will honor their previously announced timed PlayStation 5 exclusivity windows.

He also said the availability of other future Bethesda titles on non‑Xbox platforms will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What this means for Starfield and Game Pass

Spencer cited Starfield as an example of a title that will arrive on Xbox and PC. Because Bethesda is now part of Xbox Game Studios, Starfield will be available on launch day to Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

About Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo

Deathloop is a first-person shooter from Arkane Studios, the developer known for Dishonored and Prey. The game centers on assassins trapped in a time loop and was delayed from this year to 2021.

GhostWire: Tokyo, developed by Tango Gameworks—the studio behind The Evil Within—is a first-person action game combining magic and melee combat as the player confronts ghosts and creatures from Japanese folklore, set in Tokyo. The title is also scheduled for 2021.
