Xbox One game streaming now available on Android phones

Microsoft has released Remote Play for Xbox One to all Android users through the Xbox beta app, allowing players to stream console games to their smartphones without joining the Xbox Insider program.

How Remote Play works on Android

To use the feature, players must install the Xbox beta app and pair an Xbox controller to the smartphone via Bluetooth. The game runs on the Xbox One console; the phone receives video and audio while sending input commands from the controller back to the console.

App features beyond streaming

In addition to Remote Play, the Xbox beta app offers in-app voice chat with other players, the ability to view and share screenshots and game clips captured on the console, and tools to manage the game library.

Device and availability requirements

The Xbox beta app with Remote Play is available for free on Google Play and supports any smartphone running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later. Because processing remains on the Xbox One, a high-end phone is not required for streaming.
