5 classic games that should join Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online offers subscribers access to cloud saves and a library of retro titles from platforms such as the Super NES, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy. Still, several notable classics from different generations are missing from the service’s catalog — games many players would welcome on Switch Online.

Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Chrono Trigger, originally developed by Square and released for the Super NES in 1995, follows Crono and his companions on a time-spanning quest that reaches “the end of the world.” A later port landed on the Nintendo DS on February 6, 2009, but despite its significance and legacy, the title is not currently part of the Nintendo Switch Online collection.

Hey You, Pikachu! (Nintendo 64)

Hey You, Pikachu!, developed by Ambrella and published by Nintendo in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, is a niche but memorable experiment in voice interaction. In the game, Professor Oak asks the player to test a device that enables spoken communication with Pikachu, creating a light, interactive experience that stands apart from typical Pokémon entries. The game remains absent from the Switch Online offerings.

Donkey Kong 64 (Nintendo 64)

Donkey Kong 64, developed by Rare and released in 1999 as a follow-up to the Donkey Kong Country series, also does not appear on Nintendo Switch Online despite the service including other franchise entries. The game’s story sends King K. Rool to attack DK Isles, launching a large-scale adventure that features multiple playable Kongs and extensive platforming content.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day (Nintendo 64)

Released for the Nintendo 64 in 2001 and developed by Rare, Conker’s Bad Fur Day centers on a hard-partying red squirrel who must return home and find his girlfriend after an excessive night out. The title is known for its mature humor, diverse challenges and puzzle-solving elements, and it is not included in the current Nintendo Switch Online catalog.

Track & Field (Arcade/Console)

Track & Field, developed by Konami in 1983, is one of the defining sports arcade games of the 1980s. Players can compete in events such as sprints, javelin, 110-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump and hammer throw. Despite its iconic status, the game is not listed among the retro options available through Nintendo Switch Online.
