The open-source original Xbox emulator Xemu was updated to version v0.05, bringing cross-platform support, graphical and audio improvements, and compatibility fixes for multiple Xbox BIOS revisions.
Cross-platform availability and downloads
Unlike earlier releases limited to Windows, Xemu v0.05 adds official compatibility with macOS and Ubuntu, removing an obstacle for players who use those systems. Users can download the appropriate build from the project’s official page by selecting the button next to their operating system.
On Ubuntu, starting with version 18.04, Xemu can be installed through the emulator’s official repository.

Graphics, sound and BIOS compatibility improvements
The v0.05 update focuses on visual and audio enhancements intended to make games run smoother and look better. Developers also implemented fixes to improve the emulator’s handling of different Xbox BIOS versions, which should increase overall usability across a wider set of game images and configurations.
Teaser demonstrates smoother menus and gameplay
A promotional teaser released by the developers showcases the improvements in v0.05. The video highlights more fluid animations in the boot and settings menus and reports better gameplay performance in titles such as Halo: Combat Evolved and the November 2001 release Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2X.
Open source development and multiplayer support
As an open-source project, Xemu allows users to report issues and contribute fixes directly to the developers. The emulator includes native multiplayer features that can connect other players and even original first-generation Xbox consoles over local networks or the internet.
Controller support
Xemu v0.05 supports multiple input devices, preserving the first Xbox’s capability of up to four controllers connected simultaneously.
