Microsoft said it will release an update to fix an intermittent disconnection issue affecting some Xbox Series X wireless controllers, according to a company statement quoted by The Verge. The company did not provide a timeline for when the fix will be deployed.
What users are experiencing
Some owners of the Xbox Series X have reported that their controllers randomly stop registering inputs, making gameplay difficult or impossible. Reports vary: in certain cases the controller fails to pair with the console entirely, while in others the controller remains synced but misses specific button commands.

The problem does not appear to be widespread enough to trigger mass reports. The official Microsoft forum contains roughly 40 pages of user posts describing similar connectivity problems, and threads on Reddit indicate the issue occurs more frequently in particular titles, with many players citing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as an example.
Microsoft’s response
In its statement, Microsoft said its products undergo strict quality testing and emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a consistent gaming experience. The statement acknowledged awareness of controller disconnections affecting some players and said teams are actively working on a solution to be included in an upcoming update.
“At Microsoft, all our products go through rigorous quality testing, and we are committed to delivering an unparalleled gaming experience. We are aware that some players may be experiencing disconnections with their new Xbox wireless controllers, and our teams are actively working on a resolution to be included in a future update.”
Advice for players while waiting
Microsoft reiterated standard guidance to keep firmware and software up to date across systems and platforms. That recommendation also applies to PC users who connect Xbox controllers via Bluetooth, the company noted.
Timing and next steps
Microsoft did not specify when the corrective update will arrive. Until a patch is released, affected players may continue to experience intermittent connectivity depending on game and hardware conditions.
