Xbox unveils Aqua Shift special edition controller

Xbox announced the Aqua Shift Special Edition wireless controller for Xbox Series X|S on Tuesday, October 3. The controller — billed for its striking blue finish — is available for pre-order on Microsoft’s store in select markets.

Design inspired by game fantasy, with a prismatic finish

According to the announcement, the Aqua Shift color was inspired by “the fantasy that games bring to life,” producing a mystical, surreal blue that the company says “you have to see to believe.” Xbox described the finish as prism-like, with shifting color effects intended to appear to move as the controller is handled.

New tactile features and customizable controls

The Aqua Shift is the first Series X|S controller to include rubberized side grips, and each unit features a unique two-tone swirl pattern on those grips. The controller also incorporates textured buttons and a dedicated Share button.

The Share button’s behavior can be customized through the Xbox Accessories app to perform functions such as capturing screenshots, starting or stopping clip recordings, or instantly grabbing a moment. The app can also be used to remap other buttons and create personalized controller profiles.
