Xbox tests badges to show if a game can be played

Xbox insiders are testing a console update that adds visual badges to indicate whether a game can be played on a particular console and why it might not be accessible.

The first report about the trial came from Xbox’s head of engineering, Eden Marie, who said on Twitter that the new badges will flag games that a console cannot run and explain the reason.

What the badges will show

According to the information shared, each badge will represent a specific reason a player cannot use a game on their console. Examples include a title leaving the Xbox Game Pass catalog, insufficient storage space, or the console being in offline account mode.

These badges are intended to guide users quickly to the cause of the issue so they can take appropriate action, such as freeing up storage or reconnecting an account.

Availability and timeline

The feature is expected to be available for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. However, it is still in testing and Microsoft has not announced a release date for the update.

Discord voice chat arrives on Xbox

Separately, Microsoft released an update that brings Discord voice chat to Xbox consoles. The new Discord Voice feature lets Xbox players talk with anyone on Discord through voice channels or group calls directly from the console.

Microsoft said the integration aims to make it easier for players on different platforms to connect via voice while using Xbox consoles.
