Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that Hideaki Nishino will assume the role of president and CEO of the company effective April 1, 2025. The appointment places Nishino in charge of SIE’s consoles, partner studios and services including PlayStation Plus.
End of dual-CEO arrangement
Nishino, who joined the company in 2000 and most recently led the Platform Business Group, will now oversee the entire SIE organization. The move ends the dual-CEO model implemented in 2024, under which Nishino led platforms while Herman Hulst, former head of Guerrilla Games, ran the Studio Business Group.
With the change, Hulst will report directly to Nishino.

Broader executive shifts at Sony Group
The leadership change at SIE comes alongside significant management adjustments at Sony Group Corporation, the parent company of SIE. Hiroki Totoki, currently Sony’s president, COO and CFO, will become president and CEO of Sony Group Corporation.
Lin Tao, senior vice president of finance and corporate strategy at SIE, will be promoted to CFO of Sony. The successor to Tao’s SIE role and the appointment for SIE’s president have not yet been defined and will be announced later.
Strategy under Nishino
Under Nishino’s leadership, SIE is expected to maintain its focus on technological innovation and expansion of its intellectual properties to strengthen PlayStation’s position in the console market. The company’s emphasis on hardware quality and innovation — highlighted by the PS5 Pro launch in 2024 — will remain a strategic priority.
Market positioning and competition
Although Microsoft’s Xbox and its Game Pass subscription garnered attention last year, Sony intends to continue prioritizing console hardware. Recent statements attributed to Nishino reaffirm this hardware-first stance as part of the company’s broader approach.

The reorganization signals a new phase for the company as it seeks to reinforce its leadership in the gaming industry and pursue additional opportunities within the sector.
