The PlayStation 5 generated higher global revenue than the Xbox Series X, according to an analysis by Trading Platforms covering the period from November 2020 through February 22 of this year.
Sales and revenue figures
Trading Platforms reports the PS5 sold 5.21 million units worldwide during that timeframe, bringing Sony about US$ 2.6 billion in gross revenue (roughly R$ 14 billion by direct conversion).
By comparison, the Xbox Series X sold 3.51 million units and produced approximately US$ 1.75 billion in primary revenue (about R$ 9.5 billion by direct conversion).
Regional performance
Both consoles recorded their largest share of sales in North America. In that market, the PS5 approached 3 million units sold, while the Xbox Series X reached just under 2 million units, according to the same analysis.
Factors affecting totals
The Trading Platforms report noted that overall sales could have been significantly higher if not for pandemic-related disruptions to manufacturing and supply chains, which affected production lines for both platforms.
