Blizzard Entertainment announced that Overwatch 2 will officially launch on October 4, opening access to its new free-to-play player-vs-player (PvP) experience after a previous delay.
Major franchise update with new competitive focus
The developer describes the release as the largest launch in the franchise since the original game’s debut. Overwatch 2 will introduce a revamped competitive multiplayer experience, new heroes and new maps intended to refresh the team-based shooter.

New hero and testing details
The lineup at launch will include the new hero Queen Junker, who will be available for all players when the game goes live. Additional specifics about the character, the game’s service model, seasonal content and the next phase of the closed beta will be disclosed during the Overwatch 2 Reveal Event.
Reveal event and schedule
The Overwatch 2 Reveal Event will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch next Thursday, the 16th, at 14:00 Brasília time. Blizzard says the broadcast will share further details about seasonal content and upcoming beta plans.
Company statements on the launch
Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said the studio is eager for the October 4 start and framed the release as “a new competitive vision,” promising fresh content and a rework of iconic heroes, maps and gameplay from the original title.
Ybarra added that this marks the beginning of “a new, always-updating era” for the franchise, and reaffirmed Blizzard’s commitment to delivering continuous updates so Overwatch 2 remains relevant and enjoyable for years to come.
