Ubisoft said Just Dance 2021 will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S starting November 24, but PlayStation 5 owners who bought the game digitally on PS4 may not be able to upgrade for free.
Backward compatibility differs between platforms
The publisher confirmed players who purchase Just Dance 2021 for Xbox One will be able to download the Series X|S version at no extra cost. On PlayStation, however, the game will only run on PS5 if the user owns the disc version; the digital PS4 edition will not carry over to the PS5 digital edition.

Release dates and platforms
Just Dance 2021 launches on November 12 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia. Microsoft’s new consoles debut globally two days earlier; Xbox Series X|S arrive on November 10. Sony’s PlayStation 5 reaches the market on November 19, and Ubisoft’s next-gen edition of Just Dance will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S from November 24.
What’s new in the 2021 edition
The 2021 installment includes 40 new songs and retains modes such as Quickplay, World Dance Floor, Kids and Coop, along with the franchise’s familiar colorful choreographers.
Questions about Sony’s wider compatibility policy
Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has estimated that 99% of current-generation titles will be transportable to the new PlayStation. He did not clarify whether that projection refers only to games with physical-disc ownership. Ubisoft’s restriction for Just Dance 2021 raises the question of whether disc-only compatibility could be more broadly applied on PS5.
