Rockstar released a free expansion for GTA Online on Tuesday, September 15: “The Cayo Perico Heist,” a large update that introduces a new island, a major heist and several in-game features.
Players can infiltrate a guarded island to pull off a major heist
The update adds Cayo Perico, an exotic island inhabited by a notorious drug trafficker known as El Rubio. Players are invited to plan and execute a raid on the island, which is protected by numerous highly trained private security forces.
During the heist, users must escape alive while stealing as much evidence and loot as possible. Rewards include artwork for resale, gold and substantial cash stored in the island’s vaults.
According to the expansion description, players can either neutralize or evade “the heavily armed forces on the island.” The update emphasizes player choice: select tools, tactics and team members, or attempt the operation entirely solo, but return to Los Santos alive.
New nightclub and exclusive perks for penthouse owners
The update also brings The Music Locker, a new nightclub located beneath the Diamond Casino and Resort. The venue hosts some of Los Santos’s most prominent DJs and will be accessible to all players.
Owners of a Penthouse at the Diamond receive an extra benefit: exclusive access to the VIP table service section of The Music Locker.
Additional content: music, weapons and vehicles
Music in the game was expanded with new radio stations and more than 100 additional tracks. As with previous updates, new weapons and vehicles were added to GTA Online alongside the heist content.
Availability and platforms
“The Cayo Perico Heist” is available as a free download for Grand Theft Auto V players. The update can be downloaded on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Players on current-generation consoles — Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 — can also download and play the new content via backward compatibility if they own the game.
