An official eight-minute gameplay video for Halo Infinite, captured at 60 frames per second on the upcoming Xbox Series X, was published on the franchise’s YouTube channel on Thursday, May 23. The footage highlights new mechanics, varied weapons and a large open-world segment, and the game is scheduled for release late this year for Xbox One, PC and Xbox Series X.
The demo’s environment evokes the look of Halo: Combat Evolved, featuring familiar elements such as the Warthog vehicle and enemies from the Banished faction. Developers from 343 Industries pointed to a number of additions that change movement and combat dynamics.

New tools and combat systems revealed
Among the new equipment shown are the “Drop Wall,” a fast-activating shield designed to block incoming fire, and the “Grappleshot,” a device that lets players latch onto ledges and also affects engagement tactics. The video also shows multiple weapon options, including an assault rifle and a plasma pistol.
343 Industries described the Grappleshot and other new gear as providing “more freedom and flexibility for players to express their own playstyles.” The developer added that these features will also be available in multiplayer, and promised additional details about the mode “soon.”
Release windows and platforms
Halo Infinite is expected to launch at the end of the year across Xbox One, PC and Xbox Series X. The gameplay clip is presented as a slice of the “open and expansive” world 343 Industries says it is building to deliver an epic experience.
Microsoft’s console lineup update
Separately, reports indicate Microsoft is preparing a second, more affordable console for the new generation, internally codenamed “Lockhart” and referred to in coverage as the Xbox “Series S.” The company is reportedly closer to unveiling that product and may hold an event in August for the announcement.
Earlier plans—according to Eurogamer—aimed to reveal the lower-cost console in June during the canceled E3 event, but remote working and other delays shifted timelines. Additional reporting on the console situation cited The Verge.
