Microsoft’s Game Pass will offer Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance to subscribers on its release day, June 22, the game’s developer Tuque Games announced. The action RPG will be available via Game Pass for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on day one.
Platforms, cross-play and storefront availability
Dark Alliance will support cross-play between PC and Xbox within Microsoft’s ecosystem. The game also launches on the same date for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and for PC through Epic and Steam.
Gameplay and cooperative modes
The title offers both single-player adventure and online cooperative gameplay for up to four players, featuring real-time combat.
Characters and enemies drawn from Forgotten Realms
Players can choose familiar characters from the Forgotten Realms campaign setting: the drow Drizzt Do’Urden, the human archer Catti-brie, the dwarf Bruenor and the barbarian Wulfgar. Opponents include foes recognizable to Dungeons & Dragons veterans, such as ice giants, beholders and white dragons roaming the Icewind Dale.
Lineage and related re-releases
Dark Alliance is presented as a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance (2001). The original Dark Alliance was first released for consoles and found success on Xbox and PlayStation 2. In 2021, that classic was re-released for the current generation on Xbox One and PS4, with backward compatibility for Xbox Series X/S, and a Nintendo Switch release is planned, though no date has been announced.
A remaster or re-release of the sequel, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (2004), is also planned by Black Isle Studios, which developed the earlier titles, but no release date has been set.
