Microsoft indicated the Xbox Series X is expected to launch in November, according to comments made by the company’s finance chief during an interview. The confirmation did not include a specific release date.
The detail emerged when a reporter asked Amy Hood, Microsoft’s chief financial officer, whether the next-generation Xbox would arrive in November; Hood replied in the affirmative. The exchange, however, did not identify a particular day.
Previous timing and web page error
Earlier public information placed the console’s release at the end of 2020 without naming a month. In March, an official page briefly listed the product as arriving on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, but Microsoft later said that listing was an error.
Historically, Microsoft’s prior consoles—the original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One—were released in November, a pattern that has fueled speculation about a November launch for the Series X despite the company’s retraction of the web page date.
Microsoft statement and Halo Infinite
In a statement to GameSpot, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company is “excited to launch the Xbox Series X, which will set a new bar for power, speed and compatibility when the console launches, alongside ‘Halo Infinite.’ We have nothing further to share at this time.”
Recent showcase focused on games, not launch details
The most recent Microsoft event, the Xbox Games Showcase held on July 23, highlighted upcoming games rather than revealing console price or a firm release date. Some observers had expected surprise announcements about the Series X during that presentation, similar to how the hardware itself was revealed.
Microsoft Store redesign ahead of new hardware
While the console’s release approaches, Microsoft is rolling out a redesigned Microsoft Store for apps and games intended to be “faster, more secure and easier to use than ever.” The company says the updated store will be twice as fast as the current version and load in under two seconds.
The redesign will add features such as showing which games friends are playing, easier discovery of promotions, and automatic playback of trailers as users browse titles. Microsoft also introduced new search filters, an updated wishlist and a refreshed cart for clearer item management.
Microsoft emphasized backward compatibility as part of the store changes: the platform will be optimized to work well on Xbox 360, Xbox One and, when available, Xbox Series X.
