Analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners estimates that combined sales of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles have exceeded 12 million units worldwide, marking a notable rise from the roughly 8 million units reported in October 2021.
Series S production helped lift overall sales
Ahmad attributes part of the growth to Microsoft’s decision to offer two consoles under the same family name. According to his assessment, faster production of the lower-cost Series S relative to the higher-end Series X played a key role in keeping the lineup strong despite component shortages that disrupted the consoles’ supply chain.
Estimates required due to lack of official figures
The sales total is an estimate because Microsoft no longer publishes official console sales numbers. Ahmad’s calculation is based in part on Microsoft’s announcement that Xbox Series X|S was the best-selling Xbox platform in its first year after launch.
