Microsoft has begun testing a redesigned Xbox Store and a new Activity tab that replaces the traditional Achievements screen on Xbox Series X, the company said. Selected users are evaluating the features, which aim to improve navigation, performance and accessibility ahead of a broader rollout.
Redesigned store: faster, clearer, more secure
The test version of the new store interface focuses on speed and clarity when browsing games, themes and promotions. Microsoft says the redesign intends to make it easier to find games, movies and trailers by offering a more intuitive and interactive experience.
Parental controls have also been added to the store, applying stricter age ratings across all profiles stored on the console. Microsoft indicated the changes are planned for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, with priority given to the Series X; some enthusiasts, however, have expressed concerns that the revamped store may not perform as effectively on current-generation hardware.
Activity tab replaces Achievements
Microsoft is testing an Activity tab to take the place of the traditional Achievements view. The new tab will let users customize what they see, including the ability to hide their trophy display and highlight specific games—such as those where they invested many hours to unlock everything.
The Activity tab also streamlines finding groups for online play. Players can set their console status to “looking for group” and use a new “request to join” button to ask to join friends’ parties, speeding up the process of starting matches. Users will also be able to join a friend’s group while a match is in progress, waiting until the current game finishes before entering.
Testing and next steps
Participants in the test program will provide feedback to Microsoft so the company can refine performance and accessibility before the final release. The Xbox Series X is scheduled for launch at the end of this year.
