Xbox and developer Ebb Software released an eight-minute gameplay video for the upcoming first-person horror game Scorn on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Microsoft confirmed the title will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on day one, with no additional cost.
What the new gameplay shows
The trailer presents a nightmarish, atmospheric world filled with strange, organic structures and unsettling environmental details. Ebb Software described the game world itself as a character, and the footage emphasizes exploration through grotesque, biomechanical spaces.
Scorn’s gameplay centers on navigating those environments and solving puzzles to progress through themed areas. The publisher says the game will not provide aids for puzzle-solving, requiring players to carefully evaluate surroundings and develop strategies to advance.
Story and progression hints
As players explore, they gradually uncover more about the protagonist being controlled and the distinct locations encountered. Each area in the game carries its own theme, contributing to the overarching tone and mystery revealed through exploration.
Release schedule and platforms
Originally announced in 2020, Scorn was expected to launch the previous year but faced delays. Ebb Software now set the release date for October 21, 2022, and confirmed the game will arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Xbox Game Pass inclusion
Microsoft will add Scorn to Xbox Game Pass on its launch day. The service, noted for its broad catalog of recent releases and classic titles, will include the new horror game without an extra fee for subscribers.
