More PS2 classics are getting modern remakes

Several beloved PlayStation 2-era games are receiving full remakes for modern platforms, with official projects announced for Persona 4, the early God of War entries and the original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Persona 4, one of the franchise’s most popular entries and a spin-off from the Shin Megami Tensei family, is being remade, though no release date has been disclosed. The title remains a traditional turn-based RPG that mixes dungeon exploration with social-simulation elements.

The remake is expected to preserve the game’s blend of school-life drama, murder-mystery investigation and supernatural combat, along with its distinctive visual identity—most notably the bright yellow color palette that has become a signature for this installment.

A full remake trilogy of the first three God of War games was revealed unexpectedly during the State of Play event in 2026. The announcement said the project will recreate those early entries, two of which originally launched on the PS2, from the ground up.

Details on the development are still scarce, but the original voice actor for Kratos, TC Carson, confirmed that work on the remakes has already begun. Because development is in its early stages, no release window has been provided and further updates are expected to arrive only after more progress is made.

Splinter Cell remake keeps original mission structure

The first Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, released in 2002, is also being remade. That original title reshaped stealth gameplay by emphasizing light and shadow and sound management rather than relying solely on enemy line-of-sight.

According to the producer and creative director on the project, the remake will retain the classic closed-mission structure instead of converting the game into an open-world format. The goal is to modernize graphics and controls for today’s players while preserving the core design and feel of the original stealth experience.
