Digital Foundry’s analysis suggests GTA 6 may run at 30 frames per second on the PS5 Pro rather than the 60 FPS many players expect, because the game’s heavy simulation likely stresses the console’s processor more than its graphics chip.
CPU limits seen as the main bottleneck
William Judd of Digital Foundry argues the trailers for GTA 6 reveal an unusually high level of world simulation — numerous NPCs, dense traffic, advanced physics and highly detailed environments. Those elements place a large burden on CPU processing.
Although the PS5 Pro reportedly ships with a substantially more powerful GPU and adds features such as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and improved ray tracing, Judd believes the processor upgrades over the original PS5 are modest and unlikely to sustain a steady 60 FPS in a title with GTA 6’s complexity.
According to the analysis, the most plausible performance targets on PS5 Pro are a 30 FPS mode, or in some scenarios and on compatible displays, an approximate 40 FPS mode rather than a full 60 FPS option.

Analysis echoes earlier predictions
This assessment aligns with previous commentary from Digital Foundry. In 2024, Richard Leadbetter also suggested current-generation console CPUs would probably be the primary constraint for achieving 60 FPS in GTA 6.
At the same time, a former Rockstar animator indicated the studio might follow the pattern used with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2: launch at 30 FPS initially and pursue performance improvements via updates after release.
Official performance details remain unannounced
Rockstar Games has not publicly confirmed the frame rate targets for GTA 6 on consoles. Sony has only stated the game will receive the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label without detailing the specific enhancements that entails for performance.
Various rumors have circulated claiming the PS5 Pro could run GTA 6 at 60 FPS, but none of those claims have been verified by Rockstar.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and further technical details are expected to surface as that date approaches.
