Check your game’s FPS with Windows Xbox Game Bar

The Xbox Game Bar built into Windows can show real-time frames per second (FPS) for games, allowing you to confirm how many frames your system is delivering before you adjust settings or enable performance modes.

Open the Xbox Game Bar

While running a game on your PC, press WINDOWS + G on your keyboard. This shortcut opens the Xbox Game Bar overlay without exiting the game.

Locate and open the Performance widget

After the overlay appears, a small action bar will be shown near the top of the screen. Click the right-arrow on that bar until you see the “Performance” button, then select it.

View the FPS counter

The Performance widget contains a panel with several system metrics. On the side of that panel you can switch between different readouts—choose the “Frames” option to display the FPS counter for the current game.

Notes on usage

The whole process typically takes around two minutes. Use the FPS readout to evaluate the impact of graphics settings or system changes on game smoothness before making adjustments.
