Caravan SandWitch, an indie open-world puzzle game with a narrative focus, is available for free on the Epic Games Store from August 13 to August 20.
Premise and setting
The game places players on a planet scarred by exploitation and catastrophe. The main objective follows a protagonist searching for her missing sister, traveling primarily by a customizable van through a wide range of environments: deserts, forests, ruined cities and small surviving communities such as Cigalo.
How Caravan SandWitch plays
Controls are deliberately simple. On foot, the character can walk, run, jump, climb and interact with characters, scenery and objects. Driving the van feels responsive and the vehicle can be fitted with various modules that expand capabilities—scanning areas, using a grappling hook to reach higher locations, lifting heavy objects and unlocking doors, among others.

Missions are split between main story objectives and side tasks that provide resources for upgrades. Gameplay centers on talking with NPCs, collecting items and solving puzzles. There is no combat, no deaths and no timed-pressure mechanics, reinforcing a relaxed pace.
Characters and worldbuilding
The game presents a cast and world that many players will find charming. Interactions with the town residents and wandering NPCs are consistently rewarding, though human characters tend to feel somewhat one-dimensional—generally kind and upbeat. In contrast, nonhuman inhabitants, such as anthropomorphic frogs, offer more variety and personality.

The game world is notably large, justifying frequent van travel. Diverse biomes and distinct locations keep exploration engaging while maintaining a coherent, often unique visual style.
Who should play Caravan SandWitch
Caravan SandWitch is suited for players who enjoy exploration and puzzle-solving, and for those looking for a laid-back experience that emphasizes storytelling over combat.
