Undertale is now available on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the company announced on Tuesday, September 16. The retro-style role-playing game first launched for PC in September 2015 and can now be played on both current and previous-generation Xbox consoles.
Console-specific improvements and separate save data
Microsoft said the Xbox release includes “some Xbox-specific improvements developed to provide a more comfortable experience for those playing on console.” Because of those changes, progress and saved data are not compatible between the new Xbox version and the prior PC release available in the Microsoft Store.
Exclusive console content hinted
Microsoft also indicated the Xbox edition will feature its own exclusive content, describing the addition as the Xbox version having its own “temple, so to speak, of exclusive content to look forward to.” The company framed this as similar to exclusive elements included in other console releases.
About the game
Created by independent developer Toby Fox, Undertale uses 16-bit style graphics and centers on player choices during encounters with monsters in an underground setting. Players can choose to fight or show mercy in each interaction, and those choices influence the story’s outcome, which can lead to neutral, pacifist, or genocidal endings.

Platforms and pricing
Beyond Windows, Undertale is playable on OS X and Linux, and is also available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch. The game is listed on the Microsoft Store for US$ 14.99 and is included with Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X. Microsoft noted that the game is not supported on Xbox Play Anywhere.
